Balloch Highland Games

A lot of the club's younger members travelled to Balloch for the Loch Lomond Highland Games on Saturday. On a beautiful day with lots of sunshine the youngsters had a lot to celebrate. First of all the mixed relay team of Tony Dolan, Rachel Busby, Mark Busby and Chloe Wright won the four by half lap relay to qualify for the Scottish Championship Final at Pitlochry in September. The second team of Lewis Wood, Kirsty Kelly, Mirren Wright and Rachel Alexander was second. In the 800 metres for Youths Tony Dolan was fourth, Rachel Busby was fifth, Chloe Wright sixth and Kirsty Kelly seventh and in the Youths 200 Rachel was fourth with Mirren sixth in the same Heat and Chloe was fourth with Mark sixth in the second Heat. They all had a good time, were a credit to the club and no one came home empty handed.

The only competitors in the Senior Races were Johnathan Farrell and Anton Rusell. Both took part in the 80 metres Scottish Championships where Johnathan was third and Anton sixth in the Final. They were in action again in the Open 90 metres for back markers and Johnathan went through to the Final where he was third. Anton was harshly dealt with by the handicapper and was eliminated in the Heats. Again neither went away empty handed!

It was a pity that there were not more Seniors racing - Ian Robertson was the only one entered but was down with an illness and could not compete. When the meeting is so close at hand and has 800, a 1600 and a 3200 metres races with handicaps going up to 535 metres (more than a quarter of a mile!) in the 3200 (ie 2 miles) metres for instance it could be a good day out, a first class day's training and maybe a nice little earner. Airth Games are next Saturday and Strathallan at the start of August.
