Five Years Ago...

From the 'Clydebank Post' of five years ago this week:
"Having set personal bests at half marathon, 10000 and 5000 metres, Mark Rudzinski had a glorious two days on Tuesday and Wednesday when he had two first places and set another personal best - at 3000 metres. The first race was the club's Sinclair Trophy 5.4 miles road race on Tuesday night which he won in 30:56. Leading from the start he went through the first lap in 15:54 and then picked up the pace to 14:43 for the second lap. Second place went to Brian Gallagher in a time of 31:46 with Mikle McGinlay third in 33:29 and John Hanratty fourth and first in the handicap with his time of 33:55. Jim Shields was fifth and first veteran in 35:16 which was a minute and half clear of Cliff Brown in 36:45. Geoff Fawcett was next in 38:01 with Alan Rodger in 39:53. Pamela McCrossan was first Lady in 40:39 and Gerry Kennedy was a comfortable tenth in 41:25.

In the Glasgow Open Meeting the following night, Mark was a clear winner of the 3000 metres in 8:56.6. Having shared the pacemaking early on he went into the lead 250 metres out and took 5 seconds out of the next runner."
