Last weekend (21st) had two Clydesdale Harriers travelling to Dumfries to run the Dumfries Half Marathon. A scenic but hilly course marred by the rare sight of sunshine and high temperatures which was great for spectators but not so good for the runners! Paul Carroll was first Clydesdale finisher running a respectable 9th in a time of 1h 23m 3s followed further back by Marina McCallum still getting back to full fitness after her ultra race last month running a nevertheless reasonable 1h 41m 45s.
The weekend of the 13th/14th was a busy time for races. The Perth Ultra Festival had Aileen Scott running in the 24 hour race though unfortunately she only covered 60 miles 1159 yards during that time, far short of what she is capable of.
The Stirling 10k had James Austin running an excellent 35th in a time of 35.14, whilst Kath Scott and Bobby Rossborough travelled south to Mablethorpe to run a marathon as part of their preparation for the Lucerne Marathon in Switzerland at the end of October. Though it was a training run Kath managed to win second lady prize in a time of 3h 25m 13s smashing her personal best time by 12 minutes. Bobby ran a more conservative race running 3h 39m 56s keeping a faster time hopefully for the main event in Switzerland.
Prasad Prasad was yet again in formidable form running in the Devils Beef Tub hill race in Moffat in a time of 22.54 and 2nd place over the 2 mile and 1500 feet ascent.
At Linwood was the LAP (Local Athletic Partnership) Championships where various track and field events took place for young and old alike. Results to follow as soon as they become available.
For any Harriers wishing to run a time trial this Thursday (25th) Phil Dolan has organised one in Dalmuir Park. Meeting at the bandstand at 7pm for a 715pm start. This is mainly on grass so wear appropriate running shoes for the terrain.
