Press Report week ending 28th September

Sunday had five Clydesdale Harriers running in the Richie Wanacott 5 and 9 mile races. The 5 mile race is an out and back run on Ministry of Defence land at Gaerlochead following a tarmac single track road with a lot of hills! The 9 mile race follows the same 5 mile route but at 2.5 miles the route veers off good surfaces for the next 4 miles to follow a rough woodland track which undulates even more! The last 2.5 miles are the same as the first 2.5 miles only in reverse. In the 5 mile race Christine Duncanson was the first Clydesdale home and also 2nd lady overall running 39.42. A few minutes back was Colin Gray running 45.20. In the 9 miler Pamela McCrossan was first Clydesdale finisher running an impressive 66.50 and was winner of 1st lady prize. This was followed by Marina McCallum a little further back in 76.16 and winner of 2nd lady prize. Peter Rudzinski was only seconds behind Marina running 76.27.

The same weekend on the Saturday was the George Cummings Relay at Houston where we fielded a mens team. Each leg was approximately 2.5 miles on an extremely hilly course. The team ran the following:

  • Derek Halpin (16.12)
  • John Foley (15.44)
  • John McArthur (15.25)
  • Bobby Young (17.01) finishing well up on the field.

Next races for the Harriers are more relays:

  • The McAndrew Relays (Jordanhill – 4th October)
  • The West District Cross Country Relays (Irvine – 11th October)
  • DAAA Cross Country (Dumbarton – 18th October)
  • The National County Cross Country Relays (Cumbernauld – 25th October).
