Press Report week ending 12th October

On Saturday was the Scottish Athletics West Districts Cross Country Relay Championships at Irvine (near Irvine Academy). There were 4 main races in the program – the first was the Young Females. There were 2 teams running, one which was incomplete. All ran a distance of 2500m. The ‘A’ team had Kirsty Alexander (11.15) running first leg then Chloe Wright (11.50) on second leg, finishing with Diane Nicholson (12.39). Total time was 35.44.

The ‘B’team comprised of Miren Wright (11.41) and Kirstie Kelly (12.35) both running well.

Next race up was the Young Males running the same distance. First leg in the ‘A’team was Connor Shields (11.13) followed second leg by Tony Dolan (9.39) and third leg Peter Bowman (8.35). Total time was 29.27.

The ‘B’ team had Keir Martin (12.21) followed second leg Scott McDade (11.54) and third leg Mark Busby (10.26). Total time 34.41.

The third race was the Senior/Junior Females running 4000m each leg. Unfortunately we didn’t have a full team so first and only leg went to Marina McCallum who ran a respectable 18.01 well up in the field.

Lastly was the Senior/Junior Males who again all ran 4000m. The ‘A’ team had first leg Paul Carroll (14.38), then second leg Iain Robertson running Clydesdale’s fastest leg in 14.11, followed third leg by young David Brown (14.51) and lastly John Foley (15.20). Total time was 59.00 which gave them 19th place out of 46 teams.

The ‘B’ team had first leg Gary Dick (14.55), then young Ryan Nelson (16.32), Bobby Young (15.56) and lastly Peter Rudzinski (18.14). Total time was 65.37 and 37th place.

The previous weekend had Marina McCallum and John McArthur running in the SAAB Salomon Trail Race at Mugdock Park. On a truly horrible day and on a very muddy, hilly and testing ten mile route around the park John showed how it was done by coming 19th out of 307 runners (or certified maniacs) though he did comment that he fell a lot during the course and finished with a few cuts and bruises! He ran 1.09.36. Marina ran a lot more conservatively and managed to stay upright throughout the entire run to finish in 1.41.01.
