The West District Championships were held at Irvine over the same course used for the Relays earlier in the season. On a glorious day on a mud free course which was basically flat Prasad Prasad was the first club senior man home when he was thirteenth to finish. But the race had other remarkable features from the club point of view. First it was President Peter's 26th consecutive District Championships and in a few months more it will be his 26th National Championships. The club sub committee in charge of awards should maybe look at this record for next year's presentation. Second the two Juniors running both did well - Ryan Nelson had a good run on a hard course and Ryan Savage, who only decided to run that very day, had an excellent run over the 10000 metres and passed Michael Diver just before the finish with his superior 400 metres speed. Ian Robertson had a very good run - much better than last week and reminiscent of his run over the same trail in the Relays.
The team is coming together and with the return of Paul Carroll, Gary Dick, James Austin and the others who could not make it, it could be the best for some years. Let's get it together for the Nationals.
I arrived too late to see Tony Dolan and Lewis Wood running but I did see Peter Bowman in the Under 17 Men's race and he worked hard to finish in the top twenty.
Only one woman - Ann Murray - ran and she enjoyed it but could have done with some company. It may be that I was too late to see them but I didn't see any of the young girls - Chloe, Kirsty, Diane and company - running. It was a better trail than last week's.
