Dunky Wright
Good Luck to all Harriers in the Dunky Wright 5K. It has always been a good race with top athletes coming from far and wide to run in it. Winners include such top Scottish stars as Nat Muir, Jim Dingwall, Lawrie Spence and Allister Hutton. Allister used to use it every year as part of his preparation for the London Marathon in which he always ran well and eventually won. He would phone on the night before the race, confirming that it was the same flat course as the year before and checking on the start time. If it was part of his build up, then it could be part of yours. There are several races around the country with the title 'Dunky Wright' somewhere in there but ours is the only one for which the man himself actually awarded the trophy and the good thing was that the first year saw a Clydesdale Harrier (Allan Faulds) win it. We haven't had an individual winner since although some like Phil have come very close - The best year was when Allan Adams was second and Kheredine Idessane third behind Tommy Murray in one race in the 90's. Go out and do your best - and enjoy it too. Good luck also to Peter Halpin who is running in the Glasgow - Edinburgh - Glasgow on Saturday, starting from Ruchill Park early in the morning. He has actually been out on the road to Edinburgh doing a recce, looking for roadworks, etc, but once he got to Edinburgh and with the intention of coming home on the train, he couldn't find Haymarket Station! He should probably take a map and compass with him. Best of luck Peter.
