There were quite a few club runners at the Open Graded Meeting at Linwood on Wednesday and they all performed well.David Newton started the night with a personal best of 30.76 for the U15 200 metres. David is one of the more regular attenders and enjoys a variety of events - just watch him this Sunday at Grangemouth in the League Match. Kirsty Alexander was next in action and, just recovering from a tonsils and adenoids operation ran a good 2:59.4 for the Under 13 800 metres. Then Claire Reid, an athlete who showed signs of promise over the winter and is now starting to live up to that promise, equalled her pb in the U15 800 metres with 2:46.2 She could be a real asset to the Senior Ladies in a year or two's time. Tony Dolan ran well to set another pb with his time of 2:27.9 after having a frantic holiday of football in Blackpool. The last of the 800 metres runners was Ruan Nelson as an Under 20 who recorded 2:24.83 and he is now looking forward to the Gothenburgh trip in June. Then it was up to the 1500 metres where Roisin McShea ran a personal best time of 5:40.41. Roisin is racing this weekend in the Park 5K race. The only Senior running was Mark Doris in the 100 metres but his time was not posted on the night. Nevertheless it is good to see him back in action.
The group of young athletes who turned out along with others like Kirsty Kelly, Rachel Busby, Beth Atkinson, and boys like Lewis Wood, Scott McDade and Keir Martin are all showing signs of regular training and regular competition and have the makings of a very good squad. It is a bit of a pity that the club is split and trains at diffeent premises at present as the younger girls, in particular, could benefit from mixing with the women on training nights and could be led through to the senior team.
