West Highland Way

The annual West Highland Way Race took place on Saturday (and Sunday) this week. With times ranging from 16 hours 11 minutes to well over 34 hours it takes a lot of courage to start the race and it takes a lot of support from a good team of willing helpers to make it to the finish. Starting in Milngavie at half past midnight, they had no fewer than five checkpoints on the way north with the first being at Rowardennan and runners expected to be there somewhere between five am and eight am. How they spread out. We had three runners in the event. Aileen Scott was first to finish when she was 29th of the 122 finishers in 22:23:21 and John Foley was seventy ninth in 27 hours 59 minutes and one second! Just two seconds faster would have been a whole minute quicker!
Peter Halpin had to stop at Bridge of Orchy - maybe the swollen ankle and tendinitis behind the knee had something to do with it! Congratulations to Aileen and John, commiserations to Peter.
