Clydesdale Harrier Gus Cairney made a welcome return to competition on the 20th running in the Irvine AC 5 Mile Road Race. He was 33rd in a time of 31.24. Hopefully we’ll see more of him from now on.

On the 14th of the month was Clydesdale Harrier’s annual club race The Sinclair Trophy – a 5.4 mile 2 lap course around
The weekend of the 12th had two running events on. The first was the SAL track events at Meadowbank Stadium. Jonathan Farrell ran in the 100m (2nd in 11.25s) and 200m (3rd in 22.88s pb). Anton Russell ran in the 100m coming 3rd in 11.97. Andrew Cusick also ran the 100m (4th in 12.66) and the Long Jump (6th in 11.30m). Ross Cannon ran in the 200m (3rd in 23.76s pb) and 4th in the 400m (51.82s). In the 1500m we had Ryan Nelson finishing in 4.58.68. Paul Carroll was next in the 5000m finishing in 17.42. Anthony Jones jumped 10.18m in the Long Jump to come 4th and threw an amazing 42.5m in the Javelin to come 2nd. Lastly it was the relays. First off was the 4x100m where Andrew Cusick, Ross Cannon, Anton Russell and Jonathan Farrell came an excellent 4th in an overall time of 47.01. Lastly was the 4x400m where Ross Cannon, Jonathan Farrell, Brown and Ryan Nelson also ran brilliantly to secure 4th position.
The same day was the Girvan Half Marathon where four harriers took part. Not for the faint hearted this extremely hilly course had fastest finisher for the club and 5th lady overall as Kath Scott (1.33.35), followed by Brian Campbell (1.34.31), Marina McCallum (1.37.22 1st vet 35) and Christine Duncanson (1.48.21).
Prasad Prasad was in fine form after a long injury break winning the Meall An T-Suidhe Hill Race (5.6k and 460m ascent) and the week before coming second in the Dollar Hill Race in a time of 1.13.50.
Next events for the Harriers are the Kilbarchan Trail Race (5.5 miles) on Monday 3rd August and the Helensburgh Half Marathon on Sunday 9th August.
