Roisin and Racing

Roisin McShea continues to progress - she had another excellent run at Wishaw on Wednesday in the 1500 where Dad Brian timed her at 5:29 which is yet another pb. It is encouraging to see her travel so far for a good race - for a wee while there the only club athletes going to the Grangemouth OG were Johnathan Farrell and Johnathan Farrell.
To progress you need regular training and regular racing. Otherwise it won't happen. For many years the women working in Singers' and other factories wore curlers in their hair day and night - one day their prince would come and then they would remove the curlers and their hair would be beautifully curly. There are some athletes in the club who train away without racing and then one day they race - and run badly because they don't know how to race. The lesson is to race regularly. Cyril O'Boyle had a theory that you should lie in bed drinking sweet tea dn eating brown bread and honey until your legs started to twitch. That was the sign that you were ready to race! I didn't believe it b ut at least it was a theiry and would lead to more racing than many current members do!
Meanwhile - well done Roisin, you deserve to succeed.
