Press Report week-ending 9th August

On Sunday was the Helensburgh Half Marathon where several of the Clydesdale Harriers were taking part. Full results next week.

Last week was the Tour of Clydeside races – four races in five days. On the Monday night (3rd) was the first race - Kilbarchan Klassic Trail Race - which was run over approximately 5.5 miles. Fastest harrier was Paul Carroll coming 4th in 31.44 followed by Gerry Montgomery who was 5th in 31.45, Bobby Rossborough (35.05), Kath Scott (35.55), Bobby Young (36.29) and Marina McCallum (37.56). The next night was the second race – Canal Bank Race – in Clydebank. Distance approximately 4.8 miles. Gerry again came 5th in 27.22 followed by Bobby Young in 31.42. The runners had a rest day on the Wednesday then it was the Garscube Gallop Multi-Terrain Race (approx 3.5 miles) on the Thursday night which had Gerry running 20.03 in 8th place followed by Brian Reilly (22.33), and Bobby Young (22.41). Lastly on the Friday was the Bellahouston Belter 10k. Gerry won 1st veteran over 50 prize for the four races combined and Bobby Young won 1st veteran over 60 prize.

The weekend of the 2nd had three races being contested. Michael Diver travelled to Lochboisdale in South Uist to run in the Ben Kenneth Hill Race (6k and 276m ascent) where he continued his good form by coming in at 11th place in 46.02. The other race(s) were at the Strathallan Gathering (Bridge of Allan) where two of our younger members took part. First up was Tony Dolan who ran well in both the 400m and 800m (6th place). Then there was Jonathan Farrell running in the 90m (10s and 2nd place) and the 200m (4th). Lastly Peter Cartwright travelled to Aberdour to run in the Donkey Brae Run (7 miles) finishing well in a time of 49.25.
