Awards

In 2003 Cliff Brown as President nominated me for the Betty Claperton Award for services to Coaching and fortunately the people organising it agreed with him and it sits on my sideboard. Yesterday I had an email saying I had been nominated for an award in the Participation Coach category. So to whoever made the nomination, thanks! It made me think that we as a club have never been good at putting our people up for awards - guys like James P Shields and David Bowman for instance were well worth recognition by the Association as it was then but while people from other clubs were having their names submitted by their clubs or County Associations ours were never so honoured.
Over a few years when the West Dunbarton Sports Council was making seven awards every year, I would nominate people for every category n the grounds that nothing wet by default. More often than not the athlete/coach/official received something. I haven't noticed any winners recently and that is probably not because we have no worthy recipients. It may be that the Council stopped making the awards, it may be that we are not nominating anyone or it may even be that we have not renewed our membership. If it's the latter then it is a pity because we were one of the original clubs in the Clyebank Sports Council and as a result in the original County body. We gained a lot from it in grants as well as in awards.
However, whoever nominated me this time, thanks and I'll let you know how it goes!
