On the weekend of the 17th/18th the Clydesdale Harriers were again busy competing in various races. Most recent was the Palma Marathon (Majorca ) for Bobby Rossborough and Kath Scott. They ran 3h 5m (2nd veteran) and 3h 25m (3rd veteran) respectively over the undulating but enjoyable course. Also that day (a little closer to home) was the SVHC (Scottish Veteran Harriers Club) 10k Track Championships which took place at Coatbridge Outdoor Track. Five of our members took part. Fastest finisher for the club was Gerry Montgomery (36.58), followed by Bobby Young (40.13), Pete Cartwright (42.14), Marina McCallum (42.21 and 1st female), and David Mitchell (46.30).
Also that weekend was the Sri Chimnoy 24 Hour Track Championships in London where our regular ultra runner Aileen Scott successfully completed the 24 hr challenge and ran an amazing 117 miles. This incidentally gives her the Commonwealth Qualifying Deadline (the standard in which to qualify for the Commonwealth Games – approximately 115 miles to qualify – it’s not automatic that she’s in the Commonwealth Games however! That depends on how many others achieve it!).
Lastly that weekend was the Dunbartonshire AAA Cross Country Relay Championships which took place at the Garscube Estate off Maryhill Road . First off was the Under 11s who all ran approximately 1500m in a non team race. Fastest was Lewis Hay (7.33), followed by Rachel Campbell (7.41), Caitlin Stuart (7.41), and Lewis Halpin (8.44). Next was the Young Males and Females all running approximately 2500m. We had two female and two male teams running. Females ‘A’ Rachel Busby (10.46), changing to Roisin McShea (10.23), and finishing off with Claire Reid (11.21). Males ‘A’ had David Campbell (10.18), changing over to Tony Dolan (9.08), then finishing with Peter Bowman (7.56). Female ‘B’ had Kirsty Alexander (10.44), changing to Diane Nicholson (11.46), then Kirsty Kelly (11.48). Males ‘B’ had Andrew Hunter (11.56), changing over to Lewis Wood (11.34), then David Newton (9.49). Next was the Senior Women running approximately 4000m. First off for Clydesdale was Marina McCallum (17.13), changing over to Yvonne Green (19.53) and lastly Ann Murray (18.06) which gave us 3rd team overall. Lastly was the Senior Men also running 4000m. We had two teams. First off for ‘A’ was Prasad Prasad (13.13), changing over to Iain Robertson (15.39), Michael Diver (14.33 – this was the fastest lap by a veteran), and lastly Gerry Montgomery (15.37) which gave them 7th team overall. The ‘B’ team comprised of Ryan Savage (15.15), Bobby Young (17.00), Jim Shields (18.13), and finally Peter Halpin (21.05) to give them 15th team overall.
