News Report week-ending 27th December

Due to the inclement weather last week several events that the Clydesdale Harriers would normally take part in were cancelled including our own Christmas Handicap on Tuesday 22nd.

On a lighter note many congratulations to Under 13 runner Roisin McShea and Under 17 runner Peter Bowman who have been invited to be in the West of Scotland team at the forthcoming cross country event at Holyrood Park, Edinburgh on the 9th January (part of which is usually televised by BBC)

The 13th of the month saw the juniors taking part in an Indoor Track meeting at the Kelvin Hall. All who took part did the Club proud with some very promising performances. Also that day was the SVHC Christmas Handicap which took part around Pollock Park. Distance just over 5 miles. Fastest finisher for the Club and 1st veteran over 65 was Bobby Young (36.11), closely followed by 2nd over 65 Pete Cartwright, then 1st over 45 female Pamela McCrossan (38.42).

The previous day was the club’s own Hannah Cup, a cross country event taking place in Dalmuir Golf Course. In misty, cold conditions we had eight men and six women taking part. The race was handicapped so it had a staggered start depending on the individual’s past race times but to avoid confusion actual times from start to finish are recorded below. For the men fastest finisher was Michael Diver (35.02), followed by Gary Dick (35.14), Paul Carroll (35.51), Iain Robertson (36.49), John Foley (37.21), Pete Cartwright (41.14), Bobby Young (41.23) and Ryan Nelson (43.06). Michael Diver was the race winner and Gary Dick was awarded 1st handicap.

For the women fastest finisher was Marina McCallum (40.58), closely followed by Pamela McCrossan (41.10), Kath Scott (41.21), Christine Duncanson (45.34), Yvonne Green (47.47) and Marie Rippon (53.57). Marina McCallum was race winner and Pamela McCrossan was awarded 1st handicap.

Next Club league race for the Harriers is the Nigel Barge 10k on the 9th January (Garscube Estate, Maryhill Road).
