News report week ending 28th February

Junior and Senior members of Clydesdale Harriers were extremely busy over the past few weeks. Most recently was the senior event the Kirkintilloch Olympians 12.5k (21st) which had three of our runners taking part and all taking away prizes. Not the flattest of courses and boasts no less than 12 thigh burning hills. Fastest of our finishers was Hugh Laverty running an impressive 50.50 and winning 1st vet over 50 prize. Pamela McCrossan finished not far behind Hugh covering the course in 52.05 and winning 2nd female prize. Marina McCallum was next finishing in 57.50 (having raced the day before) and winning 3rd vet over 35.

The day before was the National Cross Country Championships at Falkirk where the cream of the crop of runners were taking part. The juniors were off first with Under 13 Boys running 3200m. David Campbell finished well up in the field to run 16.43 for the hilly course. Next off was the Under 13 Girls also running 3200m. Roisin McShea put in a strong run to finish in a time of 15.44. Next was the Under 15 Boys who had to run 4000m. Fastest Clydesdale was Tony Dolan running 16.41 followed by Lewis Wood in 17.29. The Under 15 Girls were also running 4000m and we had Claire Reid putting in a solid run in a time of 18.47. The Under 17 Men had 6400m to run and Peter Bowman put in his usual good performance to finish in 25.34. The Under 20 Men had Ryan Savage finishing in a time of 34.21 for the 8000m course. Next up was the Senior Women who were also running 8000m. Fastest Clydesdale was Marina McCallum running 35.15 followed by Kath Scott (36.45). Lastly was the Senior men running a distance of 12000m. Fastest for the club was Prasad Prasad running 42.01, followed by Paul Carroll (46.07), Michael Diver (46.47), Iain Robertson (49.45), Bobby Young (53.38) and Peter Rudzinski (65.42)

The previous weekend (13th) had two Harriers travelling to Penicuick to run the Carnethy 5 Hills Race. Fastest harrier and third overall was Prasad Prasad finishing the 6 mile course in 49.53, followed by Michael Diver further back in 68.10.

The same day we had our own Club Cross Country Championships at Carleith Farm, Duntocher. Under 11 Girls and Boys were off first running one lap of the junior course (0.75 mile). For the girls 1st place went to Cira Devaney (5.47), followed by Rachel Campbell (5.48) and Caitlin Stewart (6.00). For the boys 1st place went to a dead heat so we had two winnwes. James Grant and Tony Gallacher both finished in 5.39, followed by Lewis Hay (5.41) and Stephen Kane (5.44). Next off was the Under 13 Girls and Boys running two junior laps (1.5 miles). Fastest girl was Roisin McShea (10.29), followed by Rachel Busby (11.20). Fastest boy was David Campbell (11.34), followed by Andrew Hunter (11.43). Next off was the Under 15 Girls and Boys running three laps of the junior course (2.25 miles). Claire Reid was our only runner finishing in 18.13. Fastest boy was Connor Ewing (14.20), followed by Tony Dolan (14.55), David Newton (17.12) and Lewis Wood (21.17). Next off was the Under 20 Men and all Seniors (Under 20 running 4.15 miles and all seniors running 6.25 miles). Ryan Nelson was the only under 20 and finished in a time of 31.13. Fastest man was Paul Carroll (40.58), followed by Gary Dick (42.00), Iain Robertson (43.47), Derek halpin (44.30), Hugh Laverty (44.47), Bobby Rossborough (46.23), Pete Cartwright (47.18), Bobby Young (49.01), Peter Halpin (57.24), and Peter Rudzinski (60.26). Fastest woman was Pamela McCrossan (46.46), followed by Marina McCallum (49.21) and Kath Scott (50.06).
