The weekend of the 24th/25th proved to be a busy one for Clydesdale Harriers. First was the ‘biggie’ the Virgin London Marathon. Five of our club members took part. Fastest finisher for Clydesdale was Gerry Montgomery running an excellent race in a personal best time of 3h 1m 46s, closely followed by Paul Carroll (3.03.31), Stevie Thompson (3.14.59), Christine Duncanson (4.23.19), and Marie Rippon (4.40.09).
The Balmoral 10k was also that day and had Bobby Rossborough finishing as 1st veteran over 50 in a time of 41.54 over the hilly course, followed by Kath Scott (42.38 and 2nd vet). The Balfron 10k was the third event that day with Hugh Laverty running 40.24 and Brian Reilly (41.38).
The previous day was the Highland Fling (52 mile ultra race starting at Milngavie and finishing in Tyndrum along the West Highland Way ). John Kennedy was fastest Clydesdale finishing in 9h 32m 5s, followed by Aileen Scott (10.13.27), Craig Calderwood (11.40.13) and Peter Halpin (12.27.47).
The Lochaber Marathon was the previous weekend with no less than five club members taking part – four making their debut at the distance. Fastest for the club was Kevin Farmer (3.09.39 pb), followed by Donald Cameron (3.15.46 pb), Stuart Allison (3.22.48), Martin King and Fiona McCue (3.43.52 both pb’s).
Lastly the previous weekend was the Deafblind 10k which took place in Bishopbriggs. Hugh Laverty came 7th overall in a time of 40.05, followed by Marina McCallum (43.54). There was also a 5k fun run which junior member Roisin McShea took part in. She was 1st female in a time of 21.49.
