The club - all age groups - was competing at Dumfries on Sunday in the Central and South of Scotland League second match. The David Keswick Centre is as nice a stadium as you will get and the weather was glorious. Everybody I spoke to were enjoying themselves although the meeting overran slightly but nobody seemed too upset by it.
I was delighted to see the return to action of Donald MacLeod, Connor Ewing and Rachel Busby. Rachel has had lots of problems with her heel recently but she came down to Dumfries and took part in the field events showing excellent club spirit and the team was the better for it. Connor missed couple of matches through injury so it was great to see him back running a good 1500 metres and setting a personal best. Donald was resplendent in a scarlet polo shirt with the club logo on it - it could well serve as the garment of choice for track and field team members who need to be easy to find at these matches but he did his bit as an official at the high jump and it seemed as though he had never been away. Welcome back to you both!
There were a couple of absences on the competition side but they were more than compensated for by the appearance of Ryan Nelson and Marina McCallum. Ryan had a couple of good runs and Marina enjoyed the competition and the atmosphere and both added valuable points as well as contributing to the camaraderie of the afternoon.
The Senior Men were well represented by four of the club's finest - Johnathan Farrell, Ian Robertson, Peter Bowman and Ryan Nelson - and turned out the club's only relay team of the day. It's a pity that so many age groups were one runner short of a relay team when the points were there to be picked up since many relays only had two or three clubs contesting them.
I can't name all the competitors but I will mention Kirsty who had a good afternoon and who only needs a bit more confidence to be even more of a threat to runners from other clubs. I'll maybe add a bit more when I see the results officially but to all the parents and all the athletes - David, Andrew, Roisin, Claire and the others - thanks for giving me a good day out!
