News Report w/e 19th September

Aileen Scott at The Perth Ultrafest 6 Nations 24 Hour Race

The last few weeks have been extremely busy for Clydesdale Harriers. Most recently, on the 12th was the Experian Robin Hood Marathon in Nottingham where Marina McCallum clocked a personal best time of 3h 29m 55s, taking almost 6 minutes off her previous best.

Several days before was the DunRen Open Graded Meeting at Linwood where several of the juniors had good runs. Under 11 Girls had Caitlin Stuart running in the 800m (3.25.42) and jumping 1.90m in the long jump. Under 11 boys had Stephen Kane coming 3rd in the 800m (2.59.07) and 4th in the 100m (16.42s). Under 13 Girls had Rachel Busby winning the 100m (15.49s pb), winning the 200m (31.73s pb) and finishing off her incredible run of good form with a 2nd place in the 800m (2.52.31). Under 13 Boys had Andrew Hunter coming 3rd in the 100m (12.85s), running 26.83 pb for the 200m and jumping 4.66m in the long jump. Under 15 Girls had Roisin McShea coming 4th in the 1500m (5.18.66). Under 15 Boys had David Campbell winning the 800m (2.31.64 pb) and throwing 4.04m in the shot putt. Lastly Under 17 Claire Reid came 3rd in the 800m (2.46.25) and jumped 1.35m pb in the high jump.

The weekend of the 4th and 5th was an important one for seniors and juniors alike. First up was the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run. In the junior event we had no less than 10 Harriers running the 3k course. Fastest Harrier was Andrew Hunter (12.57), followed by Lewis Hay (13.06), Stephen Kane (13.17), Claire Reid (13.18), Rachel Busby (13.51), Kathleen Ewing (14.46), Eve Kerr (14.50), Ciara Devanney (15.30), Jenny Kerr (15.46) and Christopher Kane (17.21). In the 1.5k event young Caitlin Stuart ran an excellent 6.24.

The 10k had seniors Brian Reilly and Gary Dick running finishing in 42.41 and 38.19 respectively. Lastly was the main event of the half marathon. Fastest Harrier was Gerry Montgomery continuing his excellent form to finish in a personal best time of 1.20.44, followed by Kevin Farmer (1.23.57), Donald Cameron (1.29.19), Pamela McCrossan (1.30.30), Kath Scott (1.33.07), Marina McCallum (1.33.56), Hugh Watson (1.38.32), and Sandy McDonald (2.13.56 paced by Christine Duncanson).

The Perth Ultrafest 6 Nations 24 Hour Race had specially selected Aileen Scott representing Scotland to come in as third female covering an incredible 177.157km, fantastic going!

Lastly at the end of last month was the Blythswood Care Drymen 10k where Kath Scott romped home as first female.

The next races for the club are the relays - The George Cummings on the 25th at Houston, The McAndrew’s on the 2nd October at Jordanhill and the West District Cross Country Relays on the 9th October at Rouken Glen Park.
