Comparing Times

A week or so ago I had a look at some women's marathon times and compared them with men's. Straightforward enough but Bobby Yoing went one better - he sent me a link for comparing times (and working out training sessions) over the age groups. It is the one that the Parkrun people use for working out their percentages. It's at

So go and enter your details and see what you want to about your running pace, etc!

I note from the Scottish Athletics website that Gala Harriers have now attained their clubmark award.

Christmas is coming up quite quickly - a time when you can legitimately ask folk to give you books you would like but can't afford, for kit that will help you through the dreadful training months of January and February but mainly when you can get in more miles because you are on holiday. If you normally do 50 miles a week, it is easy to get up to 70 (only 10 miles a day), if you normally get six training sessions in a week, you can now get eight in. When I was living in Lenzie and racing seriously, we used to go out at 8:00 am on Christmas Day for an hour or an hour and a quarter so that we could enjoy the rest of the day. What you don't do is waste a months training by not running and over indulging in festive fare. Remember the opposition is getting a run or a session in, why give them the advantage???

Always look for the activity that will give you the competitive advantage.
