Update on Christmas Handicap

I have been up to the Boulevard this morning to have a look at the pavement for the scheduled race on Tuesday. The pavement is a sheet of ice and therefore unusable.
Given that the weather forecast until Tuesday is for below freezing all days and all nights, there is no chance of us using this trail on Tuesday.
I also had a look at the Business Park and although the pavements are iced up, the road is generally free of ice, except at the pavement edges. This would mean that the senior race could go ahead with runners using the road. You will have to do multiple laps though to get some distance.
Unfortunately I don’t think we can let the youngest athletes use this trail as Scottish Athletics guidelines specifically forbid young athletes races on roads which are open to traffic.
If some of the not senior athletes are running the same race as the seniors, they should still be able to participate.
My proposal therefore is to cancel the young athletes race and hold the senior race in the Business Park. There is no point in going to the Antonine so everyone should meet at the roundabout in the Business Park, with your prize, so that we can give out the prizes at the race venue. Meet at 7.00 p.m. for a 7.30 p.m. start. Anyone who turns up at the last minute will be off scratch!
Should the weather improve before Tuesday, we can reconsider but I believe that we should make an early decision, no later than Monday.
