News Report w/e 9th January

With the New Year behind us it was time to focus on training and racing for Clydesdale Harriers. Very few fixtures survived the appalling weather we had from the end of November and all harriers had to find other ways to do their training as the roads were sometimes too dangerous to run on. The weather is still a problem but everyone is trying to adapt as best they can. That said a few races were run over the past two weeks. The first was the Indoor Open Graded Meeting at the Kelvin Hall at the end of December. Roisin McShea was in good form running in the 1500m heats and coming first female with a strong time of 5.37.66. Also running was Rachel Busby running in three events. First was the 60m where she ran a personal best time of 9.83s, followed by running in the 200m (32.88s) and finally the 800m (2.58.46) – all excellent times considering how the weather had affected training beforehand.
On the 2nd of this month two senior members of the club travelled down to Preston to run in the Central Lancashire New Year Half Marathon. The course was fairly flat with a few hills to keep it challenging and was run in a large loop on country roads starting and finishing in the village of Cartforth just outside Preston. Paul Carroll ran well to finish 12th overall and 3rd vet 40 in a time of 1.20.21, followed by Marina McCallum (57th overall) in a time of 1.35.01.
The next event for senior and junior members alike is the rescheduled West Districts Cross Country Championships this Sunday (16th).
