The new track at St Peter's has been very good for the club. There can be no doubt about that. The senior and junior track members are able to train on their home ground without the expense or hassle of travelling to Scotstoun or Linwood. The senior road runners have benefited from having a new addition to their training and, as well as enjoying the change, are fitter and sharper than they would have been otherwise.
So, if one session a week is good, would two not be better for the club? Not all runners want to train on a track three or four times a week but there is a lot of evidencve that two sessions a week are better in summer than one. Senior sprinters (such as Johnathan and Andrew) would prefer training in Clydebank twice a week than having to go to Glasgow at great expense of money (£4 just to get on to a Glasgow track) and time (when you have lots of Uni tasks to complete, then every half hour spent travelling counts!). If we are looking at new members coming along, not all can come on a Tuesday because of reasons to do with employment, studies or other commitments and the option of a Thursday would be welcome to them. Finally, new members from local schools might find Tuesday awkward to fit in and another session at a local track would give them another way in to athletics: the more ways there are in to the club, the better. So how about another session on the track at St Peter's every week?
As they found out in Coatbridge forty years ago, the availability of the track generates its own use. We should be aiming to take advantage of that.
