News report week ended 20th May

Last Thursday was the Polaroid Eyewear Helensburgh 10k (first in the series of four races). Clydesdale Harriers had some fantastic results culminating in no less than six personal bests. Fastest harrier and 8th overall in the race was Paul Carroll finishing in a personal best time of 34.44 (1st vet over 40), followed by Kevin Farmer (39.17), Alistair Greig (39.21 pb), Martin King (39.27 pb), Anne Murray (39.39 pb and 3rd vet over 35), Hugh Laverty (40.07), Pete Cartwright (1st vet over 60), Brian Reilly (41.32), Mark Barrow (42.44 pb), Christine Duncanson (45.24 and 3rd vet over 50), Yvonne Green (45.37), Colin Gray (49.36), Stephen McKee (49.38), Tricia Stevenson (52.32 pb), and Evelyn McKee (55.42).
On Sunday 13th was the Ignis Asset Management Women’s 10k. In wet and windy conditions  six of our women braved the elements to take part. Fastest was Anne Murray finishing an incredible 30th out of over 8000 runners in a time of 40.38, and was also 3rd vet over 40, followed by Pamela McCrossan (38th and 1st vet over 50 in a time of 41.19), Fiona McCue (79th in 43.28), Marina McCallum (87th in 43.53), Christine Duncanson (135th in 45.19, and also 5th vet over 50), and Marie Rippon (1259th in 54.47).
The previous day was the invitational race the Dick Wedlock Memorial 10k at Pollock Park. Mark Barrow finished well to run the hilly course in 43.16.
A great result for our Clydesdale athletes in the wind and rain at Ayr on Saturday 12th of May at the West District Championships. Andrew Hunter achieved a Gold in the 100m with a time of 12.55 and Silver in the 200m with a time of 25.2.  He narrowly missed out in a Bronze medal in the Long Jump by 5cm but with high hope for next year.  David Campbell achieved Gold in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 64.24 not a PB but an outstanding result considering the weather and the level of competition.
Next race for the senior harriers is the second in the Polaroid Eyewear 10k Series on Thursday 24th May at 7:30pm. This one is in Clydebank starting and finishing on the service road at the rear of the Clyde Shopping Centre (parallel to Kilbowie Road). We’re always looking for volunteers to help out so if anyone has any spare time that night and aren’t racing then please go to the Playdrome before the race (registration point) and ask for Peter Rudzinski.
