News report week ending 13th May


Sunday 13th  was the Ignis Asset Management Womens 10k which was run around the streets and parks in the southside of Glasgow. Results next week.

The previous Wednesday (9th) had five Clydesdale Harriers running in the Troon Tortoises 10k. Fastest harrier was Christine Duncanson running 45.06, followed by Gerry Kane (45.14), Yvonne Green (45.35 pb), Stephen McKee (50.05), and Evelyn McKee (55.58).

The previous Sunday was the Walter Ross 10k which took place in and around Pollock Park. This was a race organized by SVHC (Scottish Veteran Harriers Club). Fastest harrier was Gerry Montgomery (36.55), followed by Hugh Laverty (40.07), Pamela McCrossan (41.00 and 2nd female), Pete Cartwright (41.07), Peter Rudzinski (45.48), Watson Jones (46.07), and Bobby Young (46.41).

Another SVHC organized race was four days previously in Coatbridge. The Snowball Race (4.8 miles) attracted six of our harriers with Gerry Montgomery again being fastest harrier in a time of 28.56, followed by Hugh Laverty (30.56), Pamela McCrossan (32.06), Marina McCallum (33.47), Watson Jones (36.17), and Bobby Young (38.16).

At the end of last month was the Fleetwood 10 Miler where Paul Carroll ran a personal best time in appalling weather conditions and 3rd place overall (58.41), followed by Marina McCallum (2nd Female in 71.59).

The 53 mile HOKA Highland Fling also took place that weekend (trail race from Milngavie to Tyndrum along the West Highland Way). Fastest harrier was Craig Calderwood in 9h 23m 01s, followed by John Kennedy (9h 58m 50s).

Next races for the harriers are the Polaroid 10k Series starting with Helensburgh on the 17th May.
