isn't the new track wonderful? There were so many things about the club that we used to take for granted - everybody training at the same venue, people trying new things, the different ages talking to each other and educating each other, the ease of communication within the club - that you don't appreciate until they are gone. Last night was the third night at the new track and there were many things that I saw that sent me home a happy old man. People trying new things: John Hanratty's group doing 200 metre reps on the track and enjoying it - that would never have happened had they been asked to go to Linwood or Scotstoun. Frank Horwil has a wee plastic phrase that he uses which says "he that trains the same, remains the same". And it's true. If you train as you did last year, why should you run faster this year than last? People making a start on getting fitness back that they had lost. Donna Campbell and Megan Reid starting back after losing some fitness while studies took precedence over running. They would not have come to Scotstoun to be seen doing their introductory training by other athletes. New runners taking a step back to fitness that they would not have taken had they been required to do so on the road. I'm talking about Sam Wallace who now lives round the corner and because he can do a gentle track session to start back, was there last night with John's group. Older road runners chatting to young track athletes which can do so much to bring the track together.
The sun even shone! How good was that?
