Last Thursday was the second in the Polaroid Eyewear 10k Road Race Series which took place in Clydebank. Clydesdale Harriers were organising the event so a lot of their runners were helping out but we still managed to have at least nine runners running. The race very nearly didn’t go ahead due to a fallen tree on the canal but thankfully the council managed to clear it in time! The fastest harrier was Donald Cameron finishing in another personal best time of 35.24, followed by Derek Halpin (38.30), Kevin Farmer (38.37), Pamela McCrossan (40.28), Heather Calderwood (42.36), Alistair Greig (43.03 pb), Shirley Greig (45.14 pb), Watson Jones (48.10), and Colin Gray (50.54).
The previous weekend was the Scottish Athletics League (SAL) at Grangemouth Stadium. Jonathan Farrell ran well in the 100m, 200m where he ran 11.56 and 23.9 respectively, and threw the Shot Putt 7.74m. Peter Bowman competed in the 200m, 400m and 800m finishing in times of 25.51, 54.93 and 2.02.22 respectively. Ryan Nelson timed 2.23.79 for the 800m and 5.02.24 for the 1500m. Tony Dolan clocked 5.12.90 for the 1500m. In the 5000m Paul Carroll ran well to clock 17.24.64 and David Brown ran in the 3000m Steeplechase to finish in 11.33.53. Finally there was the relays. In the 4x100m Jonathan Farrell ran first changing to Peter Bowman, who changed to David Brown, and finally Tony Dolan to finish in a time of 50.94. This was followed by the 4x400m where Jonathan Farrell again ran first changing to Peter Bowman, who changed to David Brown, and finally Ryan Nelson to finish in a time of 3.59.43.
Forthcoming race for the harriers are the third in the Polaroid Eyewear 10k Series at Dumbarton (this Thursday).
