Kilpatrick Hill Race

Dear colleagues,
Last night (1st June), I competed at the Kilpatrick Hill Race. This is the first time I have done this race for quite a few years as I usually steward at the race. However, this year I decided to compete and see if I could win the trophy as first Clydesdale finisher. (One of the few trophies in the club which I have never won before!).
To my surprise, I was the only club member competing which means I win the trophy by default. Of interest though was the number of current and ex Clydesdale Harriers who were either running, watching or organising.
Christine Menhennet, organising the race on behalf of Westies.
Ian Murphy, stewarding. Ian has a dodgy knee and can no longer run. A great pity because he was, in my humble opinion, the most talented runner in my time in the club.
Bobby McOuat, watching. Still injured after his accident in this race last year but hoping to resume competing on hills and grass sometime soon.
Tom Collins, recovering from health problems, he was out for a run in the hills last night, spotted the flags, and came down to the start to talk to me.
Paul McKendry, competing as unattached. I think we might get him to come back to us.
Don Reid, competing for Westies.
Ross McInroy, competing for Helensburgh.
Gordon McCaffrey, competing as unattached.
Finally, as I was bombing up the road at the start of the race, Alan Lorimer was coming down in his Land Rover. He shouted to me that he could have been doing the race. I shouted back that he also said that last year!
Anyway, the race was well marshalled, the sky was leaden but no rain (or midges) and I won a spot prize.
Hope to see some of you there next year.
