The weekend of the 7th was an extremely busy weekend for Clydesdale Harriers. On the Sunday was the Babcock Marine Helensburgh Half Marathon which was also the West Districts Half Marathon Championships – this meant the standard was extremely high in the men’s and women’s races. However our club members did us proud. Fastest harrier and coming 8th overall was Paul Carroll in a time of 1.18.32 (2nd veteran over 40), followed by Pamela McCrossan in 1.29.07 (1st veteran over 50 and Bronze medalist in West Districts), Stuart Allison (1.32.11), Alistair Greig (1.36.46 pb), Mark Barrow (1.38.56), Brian Reilly (1.43.12), Shirley Greig (1.44.34 pb), Stephen McKie (1.50.33 pb), Evelyn McKie (1.59.00 pb), Colin Gray (2.03.11), and Tricia Stevenson (2.03.49).
Also that day on the beautiful island of Mull we had two harriers running in the Isle of Mull 10k and two running in the half marathon. In the 10k we had Hugh Laverty finishing in a time of 42.03, followed by Sandy McDonald (65.12). In the Half Marathon we had Christine Duncanson finishing in 1.45.46 and winning 1st veteran over 50, followed by Watson Jones (1.47.10 and 1st Vintage prizewinner!).
The Scottish Gas/City of Edinburgh 10k Road Race had Yvonne Green finishing well in a time of 48.06.
The day before there was another island race under way. This was the Ardbeg Islay Half Marathon where Gerry Montgomery finished 5th overall and 1st veteran over 50 in a time of 1.21.40. This was followed by Marina McCallum who had a brilliant run to finish as 1st Female and also 1st veteran in a time of 1.32.40.
The weekdays running up to the weekend had the Tour of Clydeside – a series of four races. The first race was the Kilbarchan Klassic Trail Race (5.5 miles) which had Paul Carroll coming 5th overall in 31.07, followed by Pamela McCrossan (2nd female in 35.11), Paul McKendry (35.51), and Colin Gray (44.04).
