First of all a correction - Rachel's 800 metres time on Wednesday was 3:00.25 and not 3:25 as reported in the last item. Rachel has been running well all season as have all of the distance runners in Phil's group. Peter Bowman has had a good summer with his pb down to 2:03 and should have a better winter now that he is now totally committed to athletics. Ian Robertson is not far behind in terms of improvement with some excellent races on the track and a pb of 2:02 for 800 - being so close in times they could do each other a lot of favours in training terms over the winter. Paul Carroll has had a good summer with several pb's including a sub 3:00 marathon. The whole group is progressing well.
I have been asked by two club members separately over the past two weeks for copies of the three books that I have had printed. They deal with club members over the years from the founding of the club in 1885. The first one includes Willie Maley, Celtic manager who won the Scottish 100 yards as a a Clydesdale Harrier and John Mellish the club president who 'allowed his name to go forward as manager of the Rangers' - the only Rangers president who had the honour of being a CH president as well. The middle book has a dozen guys and gals from between the wars and the final book has fifteen folk from the 1945 - 2007 period. If anyone is interested, speak to Peter Rudzinski or myself. We have already disposed of 75 out of 100 that were printed.
Natalie was on the phone this morning: her present tour ends on 31st August then she is back to sixth year at school - she was even out buying a new uniform! While she is enjoying the band and the tours, she is missing the running and the club members so we should see her around again from September.
Johnathan Farrell starts at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh this year and was through at Meadowbank on Thursday seeing coach John Lees with whose group he might be training once he goes to University. He already knows some of the group and two of them at least are at Heriot Watt.
