Christmas Handicap

Good luck to everybody in the Christmas Handicap - it should be well supported and it has always been a popular event: more a social event than a race. On one occasion there was a box containing elastoplast, antiseptic wipes, vaseline and such on the table; then when the team was third in the Allan Scally Relay and won trouser presses - such as you get in hotel rooms! - there were four trouser presses on the table.

The range of things for the younger ones has become stuck on selection boxes - almost everything on the table is a selection box these days - there used to be selection boxes, model kits, wallets, books, etc. There should be a prize for the gift brought along that is least like a selection box - maybe a box of chocs. Last time I stayed for the presentation - two years ago, one unfortunate child had three selection boxes! There should maybe have been a voucher for three free dentist appointments as well!

For the Seniors there should maybe be a substitution of sports drinks for alcohol. Instead of a six pack of Caffrey's, maybe a carton of Lucozade. Instead of sweeties, maybe energy bars.

Whatever, have a good race, I trust that the weather will be kind and that Santa (come on Phil, get in the spirit of things and put on the suit!) will be good to everybody.
