Indoor League

The club was represented in nine different age groups at the Scottish Athletics Indoor League on Sunday. A surprise to many was the appearance of Natalie Quinn in the Women's Under 20 Age Group where she ran into fifth place in the 60 metres in a time of 8.92 seconds before recording 8.56 metres in the triple jump for fourth place. In the men's events for the same age group, Ryan nelson was first in action with 2:27.5 for the 800 and he also did the shot putt. Ryan Savage was the only other competitor in the age group with 54.4 in the 400 metres. Down an age group the Under 17 Men and Women were well represented. Peter Bowman ran an excellent 400 metres in 56.9 to be second and had already run 2:10.1 for the 800 metres. Mark Busby also covered two events - the 60 metres in 8.70 and the shot putt where he managed 6.85 metres. Andrew Cusick also doubled up the 200 metres (27.2 seconds) and the Triple Jump (9.75 metres). Kirsty Kelly went one better when she did three events: the 300 metres in 54.8, the 800 metres in 3:10.8 and the shot putt with 3.83 metres.

In the Under 15 Boys events, David Newton did the 60 metres in 9.85 seconds and the 200 in 34.3; Tony Dolan had a very good day with 70.3 for the 400 metres and 2:31.1 for the 800. Lewis Wood did well too in the shot where he threw 7.57 metres. In the Under 15 girls, Mirren Wright started the day with 9.97 for the 60 metres and then ran 34.9 for the 200. Beth Atkinson had a good run in her favourite 60 metres hurdles in 13.05 and also took part in the shot where her best was 5.64 metres. Claire Reid was timed at 55.0 for the 300 metres and also ran a good 800 in 3:01.8.
In the Under 13 Girls events, Kirsty Alexander did the 60 metres in 10.14 seconds and the shot where she threw 4.85 metres. Lauren Butler was clocked at 33.3 for the 200 metres and Rachel Busby kept up the excellent work done by the middle distance group. Rachel was timed at 2:56.7 for the 800 in sixth place and then leapt out to 2.74 metres in the Long Jump.

The only Under 11 girl in action was Hannah Camilleri who ran well in the 60 metres in 11.29 and Lewis Hay ran 10.68 for the 60 metres and 2:30.3 for the 600. The young athletes all did well on the short indoor straight and banked outside track which makes comparisons with outdoors times difficult if not impossible but the club can be proud of all of then. We should also thank team managers Donald Macleod and Phil Dolan plus all the parents who assisted as officials on the day.
