Having been asked what else the clubreps in New Zealand were up to this afternoon I can only say what I know which is this. They stayed with Bobby and Betty Flynn for nine days before moving off to Eric McMahon's place, also just outside Wellington in North Island. Bobby reckons they were all great company for them - Bobby and Betty must be about the same age as the amigos. While with them, they went bungy jumping, white water rafting, they had a run on a jet boat in some very rough water then went up the lifts at the local ski-field. Then they climbed a fair bit up the mountain before having a go at the Luge - you know, the tea tray kind of thing that you see in the Olympics. They had five runs each on the tray. They apparently never stopped all the time they were with him. The latest thing was that Eric was going to take them out on his daughter's yacht for a sail! More when/if I get it - I've sent the main club championship results this afternoon.
Speaking of Bobby and Eric reminds me of ........ From the time when I joined the club up to the 80's when there was a wee local diversion to take care of, the club used to buy wedding gifts for club members (Neil Buchanan tended to buy clocks if he had the job, I was given a set of kitchen tools, etc) and when Eric left for NZ Billy Hislop and I were delegated to go to the Big Store and buy him a hip flask! We also sent wedding telegrams to every club member about to take the high leap (as one of the guys put it) with daft messages such as "Hearts two, United One" on them. Rather pathetic humour but part of the club being a club rather than a collection of individuals. Next time I say "I mind wan time...." stop me.
