Several races were contested by the Clydesdale Harriers over the festive period. Most recent was the Nigel Barge 10k on the 3rd of this month. It was a two loop course starting and finishing in the Garscube Estate off Maryhill Road with quite a few challenging hills to contend with. First finisher for the club was Gerry Montgomery continuing his consistent run of good races in a time of 36.38, followed by John Foley (38.43), Pamela McCrossan (39.28 – 1st vet over 45) Bobby Young (41.03 – 1st vet over 60) Kath Scott (42.25) and Marina McCallum (44.02).
On the same weekend was the Beith Harriers New Year Road Race where David Mitchell was 1st vet over 60 in a time of 32.55.
Just after Christmas we had four races which the Harriers competed in. The first was the Cambuslang Down By The River 10k on the 28th. This was a flat, fast course which wound its way out and back along the River Clyde. First finisher for the club was again Gerry Montgomery (36.36 – 1st vet over 50) followed by Pamela McCrossan (39.28 – 1st vet over 45) Bobby Young (40.29), Brian Campbell (41.02) Kath Scott (42.55) and Marina McCallum (43.42). Pamela, Kath and Marina also won 1st female team prize.
Also that day was the Tinto Hill Duathlon which consisted of a 2 mile run, 20 mile cycle and to finish off you had to run up and down Tinto Hill which Prasad Prasad made light work of finishing in 1h 47.28. The Kelvin Hall was the venue for the Open Graded meeting where Rachel Busby competed in the 800 metres finishing in a time of 2.54.47.
Last but not least David Mitchell travelled down to Ayr on Boxing Day to run in the Aerodynamic Turkey Trot (10k) where he ran a respectable 43.20 on this fast course.
