This has been a busy weekend for the club at both ends of the age range. On Saturday in the Scottish Veterans (or is it Masters these days?) Cross Country Championships, the Women's team of Pamela McCrossan, Ann Murray, Fiona McCue and Marina McCallum won the silver medals for the second team beating several more fancied squads who went home empty handed. Other than the Over60's/Over 65's group of the three amigos, this is probably the first time since 1955 that a club cross country team has won medals in a national cross country championship. Well done to you all! Here's to the National at Falkirk over a very similar course.
On Sunday, the young athletes took part in the Indoor League Final Meeting in Kelvin Hall and the club was represented by athletes from Under 11 right up to Under 20 where Ryan Savage, Ryan Nelson and David Brown did us proud. Donald Macleod has all the results available on the day but I hope that the official version is available from tomorrow (Monday) or Tuesday and we'll have them on the results page. Suffice it to say that all the athletes performed well and there were many personal best results. Thanks to Donald for looking after the teams so well over the winter.
If you look at the results of the club cross country championships last week one fact stands out - almost all the winners are coached or advised by Phil Dolan. The Boys Under 11 winner - Andrew Hunter, Under 13 winner - David Newton, Under 15 winner - Tony Dolan, Under 17 - Peter Bowman, Under 20 - Ryan Nelson and Senior - Ian Robertson are all regulars at his training sessions. Among the girls, Under 11 - Rachel Busby, Under 13 - Kirsty Alexander, Under 15 - Claire Reid are all regular attenders and Senior Champion Pamela McCrosan has also been seen at some of his sessions. Well done, Phil.
