News Report week-ending 15th November

The Clydesdale Harriers were extremely busy as usual competing in various events over the past few weeks. The most recent for the juniors in the club was the Kilmarnock H and AC Open Cross Country Races on the 8th.Times were as follows: Under 11s had Rachel Campbell in 21st place in a time of 9.34 and Caitlin Stuart in 23rd (9.36). Under 13s had 5th placed and fastest Harrier as Roisin McShea (13.07), followed in 14th Rachel Busby (14.21), then 15th place for Kirsty Alexander (14.24). Next off was the Under 13 boys which had David Campbell (13.32 13th place). The Under 15 girls were represented by Claire Reid running strongly to finish in 5th place (23.44). Under 15 boys had Tony Dolan coming 12th (19.35). The best result of the day came from Under 17 Peter Bowman who won his race in a time of 21.45.

There were no less than three races being contested on the 7th. The first was the Deloitte Glasgow University 5 Miler at the Garscube Estate on Maryhill Road (first race in the Club’s winter league). Results as soon as they become available. The next was the Stranraer 10k where two Harriers competed with excellent results. Gerry Montgomery was the fastest Harrier, coming fifth overall, and was first veteran in the race. He clocked 37.12 over the hilly course. Marina McCallum also ran coming 20th overall, and was 2nd female, clocking 41.41, more than three minutes faster than last year.


The final race that day was the Tinto Tiptoe Hill Race where Prasad Prasad showed his dominating form to win the race in a time of 31.28. Also running was our other regular hill runner, Michael Diver who finished well up in the field in a time of 42.13.

On the 1st of the month was the Lasswade Cross Country where Prasad Prasad finished 2nd (37.02). The day before had Michael Diver running in the Meall a Bhuachaille Hill Race finishing in 114th place in a time of 1.13.04.

The previous weekend was the Allan Scally Relays (approx 5 miles per leg) where unfortunately the men had an incomplete team. However the three that ran did the club proud. First off was Gerry Montgomery (28.30), changing over to Pete Cartwright (32.02), then Bobby Young (31.39).

Lastly the results from the National Cross Country Relays at Cumbernauld last month:

Young Females ‘A’ Team (2500m). Roisin McShea (12.01), Rachel Busby (13.21), Claire Reid (12.27). Positioned 42nd.

Young Females ‘B’ Team Kirsty Alexander (12.49), Diane Nicholson (14.16), Kirstie Kelly (14.36). Positioned 60th.

Young Males ‘A’ Team (2500m). David Campbell (12.30), Tony Dolan (10.49), Peter Bowman (9.24). Positioned 49th.

Young Males ‘B’ Team (Incomplete) Darren Halpin (12.55), Lewis Wood (11.37).
Senior/Junior Women (Incomplete) 4000m. Marina McCallum (18.15).

Senior/Junior Men ‘A’ Team (4000m). Prasad Prasad (13.55), Michael Diver (15.39), Ryan Savage (16.26), Paul Carroll (15.59). Positioned 38th.

Senior/Junior Men ‘B’ John Foley (16.48), Bobby Young (18.03), Iain Robertson (17.07), Gerry Montgomery (16.36). Positioned 73rd.

Senior/Junior Men ‘C’ Pete Cartwright (17.50), Jim Shields (19.24), Peter Rudzinski (21.15), Pete Cartwright (18.25). Positioned 93rd.
