In the process of clearing the loft for insulation purposes, I came across a box of books of results for the Senior Men's Leagues from 1985 to 1999. A sheet of paper drifted down the stairs and I had a look. It was the league make up for 1999 and the League was in four divisions. It read as follows:
Division One: Aberdeen, Pitreavie, C of Edinburgh, Falkirk Victoria, Fife, Shettleston, Law, Clydesdale.
Division Two: Scottish Borders, Inverness, Cambuslang, Kilmarnock, Kilbarchan, Perth Strathtay, Inverclyde, Corstorphine.
Division Three: Dundee Hawkhill, East Kilbride, Ayr Seaforth, Irvine, Arbroath, Kirkintilloch O, Cumbernauld, Central AC.
Division Four: Victoria Park, Harmeny, Lochgelly, Black Isle, Lasswade, Maryhill, Penicuik, Garscube, Whitemoss.
We had just been promoted (for six or seven years we were always at the top of Div Two or in the last two in Div One) and local rivals Vicky Park had just been relegated from Div Three. The position of the two clubs has been reversed recently although we are not as far down as to be out of the top 24 clubs. If positions change as quickly - they linked up with City of Glasgow Ladies AC and Glasgow spent money on facilities and schools athletics; we lost Whitecrook and many senior men who might have tried track one night at the club do not have that facility and West Dunbarton does not spend significantly on the sport. However, the point is - if things can change so quickly, there were many signs on Sunday at Linwood and in other CSSL League matches this year, that the club is about change in an upward direction. A local facility would be nice though! I reckon that Phil's idea of joining that particular league was a winner.
