Cross Country Looking Quite Good!

Having not been at a cross country relay this year, I'm getting a bit stir crazy! Missed the DAAA's with a very sore foot (wife thinks it's gout!) and the other two because of baby sitting, I've great hopes of making Cumbernauld this week. the short relays are to me the best part of the year - the distances are not standard distances so nothing can be read into the times, responsibility is shared between three or four runners and the weather is generally very good for running.
The numbers turning out have been encouraging - in the West Districts we had teams in the Senior Men and Senior Women races and in both young athletes relays. It's especially heartening to see women's teams in the relays because for many years - not just recently - there were very few teams at this time of year.
The running particularly of Peter Bowman on the Men's side, and all the Senior Women deserves credit. Peter could become a real mainstay of the team in years to come. Roisin in the young girls team is running well and together with the whole hearted effort of Claire Reid and the return of Rachel Busby is also a good sign. As for the boys - I don't believe Tony Dolan is an Under 17! He's a good runner but then so are many others who turn out regularly - David Campbell and Andrew Hunter along with Lewis Hay and Lewis Wood have completed many teams. One of the best looking endurance prospects is Conor Ewing - he could really do a job for the club in years to come.
It;s good to see two men's teams plus in the West Districts as well - eleven guys running for the club. If this continues it should be a good season for all age groups.
