News Report w/e 13th March

Over the last few weeks the Clydesdale Harriers were busy as always competing in various races. Most recent was on the weekend of the 5th where we had no less than three races. Kath Scott travelled over to Arbroath to run in the Smokies Ladies Only  10 Miler where she had an excellent run finishing third overall in a time of 69.13. Also that day was the Lasswade 10 Miler where fastest harrier was Gerry Montgomery running 61.37, followed by Bobby Young (69.31), and Pete Cartwright (75.52). The day before was the rescheduled Nigel Barge 10k at the Science Park (Maryhill Road). Michael Diver was fastest harrier finishing in 36.30, followed by Gary Dick (36.46), Derek Halpin (38.39), Bobby Rossborough (40.28).

The clubs own Hannah Cup was on the previous weekend (26th) and took place on Dalmuir Golf Course. This was a handicapped race but actual times for the race had Peter Bowman running 33.31 over the 5.25 mile 3 lap course, followed by Paul Carroll (34.42), Michael Diver (35.40), Derek Halpin (37.05), Bobby Rossborough (37.56), Ryan Nelson (39.32), Marina McCallum (41.01), and Bobby Young (41.22). Junior female Claire Reid also ran completing one lap in a time of 16.28.

The previous weekend (20th) was the Kirkintilloch Olympians 12.5k which took place on country roads near Kirkintilloch. Gerry Montgomery was fastest harrier in a time of 48.00, followed by Donald Cameron (48.44), Pamela McCrossan (53.26 – fifth female and first veteran), and Hugh Laverty (54.34).

 Also that day was the Scottish Athletics Indoor League Match 2 at the Kelvin Hall where a lot of our younger members took part.  Under 13 Boys had Craig Butler running in the 60m (10.41s) and throwing 3.00m in the Shot Putt. Lewis Hay ran in the 800m (2.58.1) and the 60m Hurdles (2nd in 13.57s). Stephen Kane ran in the 200m (36.4s) and jumped 2.45m in the Long Jump. Under 15 Boys had Andrew hunter having an excellent day winning  the 60m in a time of 7.98s and coming 2nd in the 200m (26.7s) and 2nd in the Triple Jump (9.23m). David Campbell also had an excellent day winning both the 60m Hurdles (10.18s) and the 400m (63.4s) and finishing 3rd in the Shot Putt (5.87m). Under 17 Men had Tony Dolan running well in the 800m and 400m finishing in times of 2.35.3 and 67.6 respectively. Under 20 Men had Ryan Kenny running in the 60m (8.16s), 200m (26.6s) and winning the Triple Jump (10.46m). Peter Bowman put in his usual solid performance to finish 2nd in the 400m (56.4s) and jumped well in the High Jump (1.55m).

Under 11 Girls had Caitlin Stuart running in the 60m and the 600m finishing in 11.94s and 2.35.5 respectively. Under 13 Girls had Anna Haddock running 10.52s for the 60m and 37.1s for the 200m. Ciara Devanney ran well in the 800m to finish in 3.22.3 and Rachel Campbell ran 13.79s in the 60m Hurdles and threw 4.53m in the Shot Putt. Under 15 Girls had Lauren Butler running in the 60m finishing in 9.89s. Roisin McShea ran well in the 800m to finish 2nd in 2.40.2. She also ran in the 300m (51.6s) and jumped 3.23m in the Long Jump. Kirsty Alexander ran in the 200m (34.5s) and threw 4.72m in the Shot Putt. Under 17 Women had Claire Reid running in the 800m and 300m (2.54.9 and 48.2s respectively) and threw 5.14m in the Shot Putt.

The day before was the National Cross Country Championships at Falkirk. Under 13 Boys had Lewis Hay running the 3200m course in 17.15. Under 15 Boys had Conor Ewing running the 4000m course in 14.41 and David Campbell finishing in17.31. Under 15 Girls had Roisin McShea finishing well in a time of 18.10. Under 17 Men had Tony Dolan finishing in 33.44 over 6400m and Claire Reid finishing in 23.58 over 4800m. Under 20 men had Peter Bowman putting in an excellent performance to finish well up the field in a time of 29.46 over 8000m, followed by Ryan nelson in 34.38. Next was the Senior Women where we had Pamela McCrossan finishing strongly in a time of 35.40, closely followed by Marina McCallum (36.24) over 8000m. Lastly we had the Senior Men running a distance of 12000m. Fastest harrier was Gary Dick (47.43), followed by Paul Carroll (48.33), Gerry Montgomery (49.24), Michael Diver (49.32), Iain Robertson (54.39), Bobby Young (56.31), and Peter Rudzinski (63.41).

This Saturday (19th) is Clydesdale Harrier’s 5k Road Race which starts at 2pm in Clydebank Business Park and finishes on the canal nearby. Registration is at the Playdrome before race start. This is a fast, flat course so suitable for anyone looking for a good time.
