The weekend of the 20th had two Clydesdale Harriers traveling down to Lytham St Anne’s in Lancashire to take part in the Ultrafit St Anne’s 10 Miler. This was an out and back course along the coast mainly along a flat promenade though the first five miles had a strong headwind slowing things down slightly. Paul Carroll had a fast run finishing in 60.23 followed a few minutes later by Marina McCallum (69.53).
Also that day a little closer to home was the National Road Relay Championships at Rouken Glen Park, Giffnock. Under 13 Girls were running 2600m and had Rachel Busby finishing 22nd overall in a time of 10.36, followed by Ciara Devanney (12.44), Jenny Kerr (14.27) and Rachel Campbell (16.59). Under 15 Girls had Roisin McShea finishing in 23rd position over 3600m (15.18). Under 17 Girls had Claire Reid running 5000m in 27th position in a time of 25.19. Under 13 Boys also ran 2600m and had Lewis Hay finishing in 12.00. Under 15 Boys had Conor Ewing finishing 17th in 12.54 (3600m) followed by David Campbell in 14.22. Lastly Under 20 Men had Peter Bowman running 5000m in a swift 16.43, followed by Ryan Nelson (19.28).
The previous day was the club organized Clydebank 5k. Extremely fast times were recorded at the sharp end of the race. Fastest harrier was Donald Cameron, continuing his rapid improvement to finish well up the field in a time of 17.37, followed by Derek Halpin (18.28), Bobby Young (19.55), Pamela McCrossan (19.56), Martin King (20.29) and Watson Jones (22.12).
The previous weekend the three amigos – Brian Campbell, Pete Cartwright and Bobby Young took part in the British Masters Cross Country Championships where they won a Gold medal in their age category. An excellent result!
