Carry the Flame

I've just heard, like five minutes ago, that I've been nominated by an old Harrier friend to carry the Olympic Flame!!! Might get lucky and not be picked! Don't know how far for but - has the club nominated anyone? If you don't ask you don't get and Clydesdale Harriers should be involved in national activities - it's all a big con of course but if it keeps the club in the national and public eye, it's got to be a good thing.
And following on, did any Harrier apply for Olympic tickets? One of my old runners (from Bellahouston Harriers) applied for a lot in the first ballot (£2000 in total) and got exactly nowt. He applied more selectively in the second round and got two tickets for the Women's 10,000m. Lucky beggar. Have any of us applied for anything? Graham's tickets are costing him £297 each - a lot of dosh but as his wife says, its a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The Harriers archive in the library - I'm going in on Monday to discuss it with the new local historian Jo Sheringham - includes a letter from the organising committee of the London Olympic Games asking how many tickets the Clydesdale Harriers members want. The snag is that it is dated 1948. I hope to find out on Monday if the new archivist is yet in post and when the materials will be available for inspection. I'll blog the results of the meeting.

Where's your name anon? It was Allan Faulds in the Gauldry in Fife. And in case you're interested I have started practising in case I'm picked by running round the house carrying a mini-maglite - it's a torch. Also doing specific right arm strengthening exercises.
