Indoor League
In view of all the cancellations it should be pointed out that the Scottish Athletics Indoor League is on on Sunday - we are in the morning session. It is a good one coming right now in that it gives a chance to runners to run fast without any fear of slipping; it adds variety to the training and if they are thinking of indoor championships (either for themselves or for their schools in the upcoming Scottish Schools Indoor Championships, then it is good to have a run out. In any case, club events should be supported - better that than sitting at home playing with a Gameboy or Wii!!! Seniors have a chance to go along and see what is happening as well. Take it and have a look at the young'uns!

Ibrox Disaster
The papers are full of the story of the Ibrox disaster forty years ago. One of the group of young runners from Braidfield in the club at the time lost his Dad in the incident. He was a good lad and kept on running and doing the shot putt. There is no way that money can compensate at a time like that but there was a lot of talk of compensation for the families. It took a long, long time to sort out but when it was finally, finally arranged the boy told me that it was amazing how many men who didn't know the family wrote proposing marriage to his Mum so that "the boys could have a good upbringing with a father to help look after them."

Clubmark?
What's happened to the club's clubmark submission? Almost every other club in the area has now got their clubmark award - Garscube, Victoria Park, West Dunbarton, Inverclude, Giffnock North, Cambuslang, etc, etc have all got the award. We had the papers before most clubs in Scotland - almost exactly five years ago. It may not be a big attraction in its own right but not having it can be a discouragement to schools and parents who want to know about the club their child is joining. Is the Committee just not interested in it?
Welcome back, Roisin!
The name of Roisin McShea has been missing from the results recently - normally a regular racer I hadn't heard or seen her name anywhere. Reason? She has had rather a bad chest infection recently and with the weather that we've been having it hasn't really been a good time to shake it off. However she is now over it and ran in the 1500 at the Kelvin Hall on Thursday and was first female to finish. She has also decided to run in the 3K at Balloch Park tomorrow - we used to run the DAAA Championships there and it can be a seriously difficult course depending on how good or bad a mood the guys are in who lay the trail! Best of luck Roisin.
Not so good is the news of former member David Panton who is now in his 80's and living in Bearsden. Davie had a fall before Christmas and broke his leg. We wish him all the very best.
