The weekend of the 18th had young and old members of Clydesdale Harriers competing in the Scottish National Cross Country Championships at Callendar Park , Falkirk . First off was the Under 13 Boys running 3200m. Brian Aird ran well to finish in a time of 16.30, closely followed by Lewis Hay (16.47). Under 13 Girls ran the same distance and had Iona Allan finishing in 17.35, followed by Rachel Campbell (20.18). Next off were the Under 15 Girls running 4000m. Emily Paxton finished well in a time of 19.15. Running 4800m were the Under 17/ Under 20 Women and had Claire Reid finishing in 24.58. Senior women ran next covering 8000m. Ann Murray continued her good form to finish in a time of 36.10. Finally Senior Men were off running 12000m. Fastest harrier was Paul Carroll (48.50, followed by Michael Diver (49.56), Iain Robertson (52.16), Hugh Laverty (56.09), Ryan Nelson (56.33), Pete Cartwright (58.09), Gerry Kane (63.16), Bobby Young (63.42), Watson Jones (64.34), and Peter Rudzinski (65.23).
The previous weekend was our own Club Cross Country Championships which took place at Mugdock Park this year. Over a difficult course fastest harrier over the women’s distance (2 laps of about 4.25 miles) was Ann Murray (32.46), followed by Marina McCallum (36.15), Yvonne Green (38.29), Christine Duncanson (50.32), and Marie Rippon (50.32). Over 3 laps of about 6.4 miles the men had Paul Carroll fastest finishing in a time of 44.29, followed by Iain Robertson (46.10), Hugh Laverty (49.04), Gerry Kane (55.13), Paul McKendry (56.58), Bobby Young (57.58), Watson Jones (58.08), and Peter Rudzinski (61.11).
