The older members of Clydesdale Harriers who were also
members of SVHC (Scottish Veteran Harriers Club) were busy in the past week
with two races in the space of four days. Most recently was Sunday’s Walter
Ross 10k at Pollock Park. Results soon! The previous Wednesday was the Snowball
Race at Coatbridge (4.8 miles). Seven harriers took part. Fastest harrier was
Gerry Montgomery (28.57), followed by Hugh Laverty (31.51), Paul McKendry
(33.10), Pete Cartwright (34.21), Bobby Young (35.09), Yvonne Green (35.21),
and Gerry Kane (35.30).
The previous weekend was the ultra event the HOKA Highland Fling run over the first 53
miles of the West Highland Way. John Fox ran well to finish in a more than
respectable time of 10h 15m 37s. His wife Mairi also ran part of the route in the
relay event, and both thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
The inaugural Houston 10k was also that weekend and had Alan
Dick running well to finish 4th in a time of 41.57 over the hilly
course.

Next races for some of the Harriers include the Dick Wedlock
Memorial 10k (Sat 11th May) and the Bupa Women’s 10k (Sun 12th
May). The following Thursday 16th May is the first race of four in
the Polaroid Eyewear 10k Road Race Series (Helensburgh).
