On the weekend of the 21st was the Dundee Half
Marathon which started at Camperdown Park and finished at Broughty Ferry on a
mixed terrain course. Fastest harrier was Hugh Laverty (1.32.55), followed by
Stuart Allison (1.34.44), Marina McCallum (1.36.09), and Christine Duncanson
(1.49.08).
Also that day, in Grangemouth, was the SAL (Scottish
Athletics League) Division 2 track meeting. Anton Russell had a very busy day
competing in no less than five events. First off was the 100m. He ran well to
finish in 12.27. Next the 200m (24.73), Long Jump (5.79m and 3rd
position), High Jump (1.70m), and Shot Putt (8.43m).
D. Dolan also ran the 100m, finishing in 13.08. He then did
the Long Jump (4.11m).
Andrew Cusick jumped in the Triple Jump (12.06m), and Ryan
Nelson tackled the longer distances starting with the 800m (2.26.64), and the
1500m (5.16.43).
The 4x100m was next and had Anton Russell running first,
changing to Ryan Nelson, changing to D. Dolan, finally changing to Andrew
Cusick to finish fifth overall.
This Sunday (4th August) is the CSSL (Central and
South of Scotland League) where harriers young and old will be competing in
track and field events at Kilmarnock. Good luck to everybody as a good result
could mean promotion to Division 1. “All hands on deck” as the saying goes!
The following weekend some of the senior harriers will be
travelling north to run in the Mull Half Marathon and 10k. Some good results
should be achieved there as well!
