On Sunday was the BMAF 10k Road Race Championships which
took place in the undulating Pollock Park. Prizes were being awarded to all
5-year age categories from age 35 upwards. Clydesdale Harriers had some
excellent results considering some of the best runners from around the British
Isles were competing. In good conditions (but windy), fastest harrier was Over
55 runner Hugh Laverty who put in a solid run to finish in a time of 40.29,
followed by Pamela McCrossan (41.07 and bronze medallist in the Over 50 age
category), Pete Cartwright (43.56 and bronze medallist in the Over 70 age
category), Marina McCallum (44.02 in Over 40 age category), Bobby Young (44.20
in Over 65 age category), Brian Campbell (46.25 in Over 65 age category), and
Watson Jones (48.29 in Over 70 age category). Pete, Bobby and Brian were Gold
medallists in the Over 65 team.
The previous weekend was the Mull Half Marathon and 10k. Two
harriers competed in the Half Marathon and four competed in the 10k. In windy
conditions Marina McCallum had a good run to finish the half marathon in a time
of 1.36.37 and 1st Female. This was followed by Tricia Stevenson who
had a great run to finish in a personal best time of 1.54.30. In the 10k
fastest harrier was Hugh Laverty who finished as 4th overall and 1st
Supervet in a time of 39.57, followed by Watson Jones (48.04), David Mitchell (48.23),
and Sandy McDonald (71.13).
