This weekend saw the National Age Group Championships at Aberdeen Sports Village. Despite the travelling distance and cost
involved for the weekend away, four of our junior athletes made the trip north
to compete.
They were under 16 girls, Emily Paxton and Rachel Campbell
and under 18 boys Andrew Hunter and David Campbell.
Saturday saw Andrew compete in the 200m and Long jump, while
David competed in the 400m hurdles.
With tough weather conditions and bursts of gusting winds
PB’s were not on the cards as the boys competed. Despite this Andrew jumped 5m 67cms and
narrowly missed a place in the final 6.
In the 200m Andrew ran against winds of -2.8 to finish 4th in
his heat and was unfortunate not to secure a place in the final.
David ran well in the 400m hurdles and finished second to
claim the silver medal.
Sunday saw the girls compete. Rachel ran a PB in the 300m Hurdles to finish
second in her heat in a time of 51.26s. She came home in 5th place
in the final and was delighted to have run another PB with a time of 51.17.
In the 300m Emily ran a PB to finish 3rd in her
heat in a time of 44.73s and was very pleased to further reduce her time in the
final and finish 5th in a time of 44.26s.
Well done to each of the young athletes for their effort and
determination. You were excellent
ambassadors for your club.
Pauline Campbell
