Two things were discussed at the meeting which could maybe be looked at very briefly. Peter Rudzinski spoke of the up-coming 125th Anniversary Dinner and it is something that quite a few former members would like to attend. However he mentioned a figure of about 50 being present. I would suspect that there would be more than that. It was described as a Dinner with the appropriate speeches, presentation and some old fashioned dancing. Well, 50 people comes to about 25 couples: it might be possible to get that from the people at the meeting or at training on Tuesday nights. Then if we look at former members, from my generation, Allan Faulds, Johnny B Maclachlan, Ian Leggett, Bill Hislop, myself, Doug Gemmell, Allan Sharp and Pat Younger would all be very interested in attending. Without too much trouble we could inform several of the track and field competitors from the 80's and 90's (David Smart, David Ross, Paul Ross, etc), and the wonderful complement of runners who served us so well in the 80's and early 90's such as Brian Potts, Eddie Poole, Willie McCoo, Emily and Lynne Hardware, Fiona Barrowman, Cathie Farrell, Christine Menhennet and company would surely throw up several wanting to share memories of the club. Several guests (Greeenock Glenpark who gained independence from CH in 1892 has been a traditional invitee to these occasions and their partners would knock the total up to anything from 80 to 100.
Second, there was the issue of coaching. It is great to see Yvonne and John doing the course in the near future. Maybe a list of those who are coaching, who want to coach and who can coach should be drawn up. For instance. Donna Campbell has already done the basic coaching seminar run by West Dunbarton and also attended the coaching workshop for long jump at Scotstoun earlier this year. Whie she wants to do some running herself, she is interested in and available for coaaching: she also has just qulified as a PE teacher. Then there is Megan Reid who is studying physiotherapy and is currently doing a placement with an amateur football team. She was a hurdler before leaving school and has run in League matches, open meetings and won the Count Schools. She has also done some training in drills and so on for the event with Canadian Darcy Cummings when he was here for several months. Both would be worth following up. Mary Ann Savage has a Level 1 award and is also fairly keen on helping out. If you have Donald, Phil, Peter Halpin (Level 2 with part of Level 3 completed), John, Yvonne and add in Donna and Megan then a sizable group of coaches is appearing. They only need to be organised: a Saturday morning meeting with them all present - or even at/after training on a Tuesday - would be a start of something very good for the club.
Anyway, that's just some of the comments following from my attendance at the meeting.
