Some weekend racing

There were a lot of Harriers in action this weekend. The men's track league team was in action on Sunday and suffered from a lack of numbers - there were several call offs on the day - all for perfectly good reasons - but the lack of depth in the club made them serious. As iy was the young element made a great contribution with Peter Bowman, Johnathan Farrell and Ryan Nelson all doing their part with the youngest of all, Conor Ewing - an Under 17 athlete - having a good run in the1500 metres. Ian Robertson also had a good day in the 400 and 800 metres. Earlier on Sunday, at the Balfron 10K where the out-and-back trail is downhill for 5K and uphill for 5K, Donald Cameron was eleventh in 36:56 and Hugh Laverty was fifty seventh of the 490 finishers in 43:18. I had a vested interest in this one - daughter was running in aid of Yorkhill Hospital and it was her forst race since she was thirteen: now a Lady Veteran she was pleased to be timed at 60:34. Liz used to be a coach iwth the club working with the younger ones in Kilbowie Primary School with Julie Govan and Lynn Cowan.

On Saturday Roisin McShea ran in the Deaf.Blind 5K where she was first female passing Stevie Cullen right at the finish.
