News Report w/e 3rd July

Some of our older Clydesdale Harrier members were in action at the Scottish Veteran Harriers Club 5k at Clydebank Business Park last Wednesday (29th). Some exceptionally fast times were recorded. In near perfect race conditions fastest harrier was Donald Cameron finishing third overall in a personal best time of 16.46, followed by Stuart Allison (19.06 pb), Pamela McCrossan (19.46), Marina McCallum (20.01), Peter Halpin (20.02), Pete Cartwright (20.15), Mark Barron (20.51), and Watson Jones (22.26). Another record was possibly broken over the course when Women’s Over 50 runner Fiona Mathieson from Falkirk and Victoria Harriers running club finished in a time of 16.50 – this is possibly a national record!

The previous Sunday had Paul Carroll running in the Dunfermline Half Marathon finishing 19th overall in a quality field and fourth in his age category (Vet 40) in a time of 1.19.01.

The Brian Goodwin Memorial 10k was on Friday 24th June at Pollock Park and had Stewart Dewar finishing in 44.25, followed by Steven McKee (49.55), and Evelyn McKee (54.21). Also that night was the Calderglen 10k Trail Race in East Kilbride which had five members of the club taking part. Fastest harrier over the hilly,scenic course was Martin King (45.04), followed by Fiona McCue (49.43), Peter Rudzinski (52.31), Colin Gray (60.49), and Marie Rippon (61.09).

The previous weekend was the Mens Health Forum 10k on the Southside of Glasgow which had Colin Gray finishing in 53.18. Also that day was the Scottish Athletics League (SAL) at Scotstoun running track. Lots of good performances were had by young and old alike. Jonathan Farrell ran in the 100m, 200m, jumped in the High Jump, and threw in the Shot Putt recording 11.75s, 23.41s, 1.45m and 7.16m respectively. Andy Russell competed in the 100m (12.43s), 200m (24.54s), High Jump (1.60m), and Shot Putt (8.03m). Peter Bowman competed in the 400m (55.35) and the 800m (2.00.42). Iain Robertson also ran in the 400m (58.13), and the 800m (2.07.97). Ryan nelson ran in the 1500m (5.00.28). Paul Carroll ran a personal best time in the 5000m (17.08.53). Lastly Connor Ewing ran in the 1500m (4.45.92). The relays were next with the 4x100m consisting of Peter Bowman, Ryan Nelson, Andy Russell and Jonathaan Farrell finished well up the field in an overall time of 50.48. In the 4x400m we had Andy Russell, Iain Robertson, Peter Bowman and Connor Ewing finishing in an overall time of 3.57.09.
